Sergei Vladimirovich Loznitsa, a renowned Ukrainian filmmaker of Belarusian origin, has made a significant impact in the world of cinema through his remarkable documentary and dramatic films.
Born on September 5, 1964, in Baranovichi, Brest Voblast, Loznitsa grew up in Kiev, where he developed a passion for filmmaking. He graduated from Kiev Polytechnic in 1987 with a degree in Applied Mathematics, before pursuing his true calling in the world of cinema.
In 1997, Loznitsa earned his degree in feature filmmaking from the prestigious Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow. Since 1996, he has directed an impressive 18 documentary films, garnering numerous international accolades and awards along the way.
