Sebastián Cordero is a multifaceted filmmaker, writer, and editor, renowned for his thought-provoking and poignant portrayals of life in poverty-stricken Ecuador. Born on May 23, 1972, in Quito, Ecuador, Cordero's fascination with filmmaking began at the tender age of nine, after watching the iconic Raiders of the Lost Ark.

As he grew older, Cordero's passion for the craft only intensified, and he enrolled in the University of Southern California at the age of 18 to pursue a degree in film and script making. After graduating, he returned to his native Ecuador, driven by a vision to create films that would tell the stories of his country, where the film industry was still in its infancy.

Cordero's first feature film, Ratas, Ratones, Rateros, premiered in 1999 and went on to appear at numerous prestigious film festivals, including the Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, San Sebastián International Film Festival, and Buenos Aires International Film Festival. The film received widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards and honors, solidifying Cordero's reputation as a talented and innovative filmmaker.

Cordero's subsequent films, Crónicas and Rabia, further cemented his status as a master of his craft. Crónicas, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, was recognized with the Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Rabia, based on a novel by Sergio Bizzio, is a testament to Cordero's versatility and ability to tackle complex themes and stories.

Currently, Cordero is working on his fourth feature film, Pescador, which is in post-production.
