Rebecca Jean Smallbone, born on July 26, 1977, in Sydney, Australia, to David and Helen Smallbone, was the oldest of seven siblings, comprising five brothers and two sisters. At the tender age of thirteen, she took on the role of lead vocalist at her Christian school, and it was during this period that renowned Christian musician Carman invited her to open his Australian tour shows.
That same year, Rebecca recorded her debut album, "Refresh My Heart," marking the beginning of her music career. However, her life took a dramatic turn when her father, David Smallbone, received a job offer in America, prompting the entire family to relocate. Unfortunately, the job opportunity fell through, leaving the family with limited financial resources.
To make ends meet, the Smallbone family resorted to doing odd jobs together, such as cleaning houses, and relied heavily on prayer and the generosity of others. During this challenging period, they received a van courtesy of a kind stranger and had their youngest child, Libby, born in a hospital thanks to the kindness of another individual.
At just sixteen years old, Rebecca was offered a record deal, commencing a music career that has spanned over eleven years to date. Her self-titled debut album, released in 1994, has had a profound impact on thousands of teenagers and adults alike, inspiring them to live radically for God.
