American character actor, known for portraying rugged and intense characters on screen, including gruff westerners, irate cops, and hardened gangsters. Prior to his acting career, Bieri served as a decorated Korean War veteran.
On stage, he made his debut in 1954, appearing in both on- and off-Broadway productions, including a notable performance in the 1975 production of 'Death of a Salesman'. He later joined the ensemble of San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, where he played the role of a tough captain in the 1995 production of 'Mr. Roberts'.
Bieri's on-screen career began in 1962 with small roles, but he went on to become a prolific guest star on 1970s and 80's TV shows. He also starred in his own, albeit short-lived, NBC sitcom, 'Joe's World' (1979),playing a Detroit house painter with five kids and various personal struggles.
Outside of his acting career, Bieri was said to be an avid fisherman and sailor. He passed away in May 2001 at the age of 71, succumbing to cancer in Woodland Hills.
