Perry Archangelo Bamonte was born on September 3, 1960, in London, England. He is a talented musician and illustrator who gained recognition as a member of the iconic rock band The Cure from 1990 to 2005 and again since 2022.
Bamonte's journey with The Cure began in 1984 when he became a guitar tech for the band. He later joined the band as a keyboardist in 1990, replacing Roger O'Donnell who abruptly quit after a tour. Bamonte's versatility allowed him to play both guitar and keyboards on the band's 1992 album Wish.
Following Porl Thompson's departure in 1993, Bamonte took on additional lead guitar duties, and O'Donnell rejoined the band in 1995 to fill the keyboardist position. Bamonte appeared on several albums, including Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, and The Cure, and has been credited for writing the music for songs such as "Trust," "This Is a Lie," and "Anniversary." He also contributed to the live albums Paris and Show as well as Trilogy.
In 2005, Bamonte and Roger O'Donnell were let go by The Cure's leader Robert Smith, who wanted to make some changes to the group. The news was officially announced on May 27, 2005, on The Cure's website. Bamonte and O'Donnell remained on amicable terms with Smith despite the sudden change.
After his departure from The Cure, Bamonte joined the London band Love Amongst Ruin in 2012 as their bassist to help them tour their second album Lose Your Way. He also joined fellow members of The Cure, past and present, for their induction into the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Bamonte rejoined The Cure onstage as a guitarist/keyboardist, performing on the first night of the band's "Lost World Tour" in Riga, Latvia.
