Kanwarjit Paintal Walia, professionally known as Paintal, is a renowned Indian actor and comedian, born on August 22, 1948. He embarked on his career as a comic actor, subsequently transitioning into teaching the art of acting. Throughout his illustrious career, Paintal has worked extensively in numerous films and television shows.
Paintal hails from a Sikh family, born in the village of Tarn Taran, situated near Amritsar, Punjab. He spent his early life with his family members in Sadar Bazaar, Delhi. Paintal's passion for acting led him to enroll in the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, where he honed his craft. In 2008, he took on the esteemed role of Head of the Acting Department at FTII.
Paintal arrived in Bombay, now rebranded as Mumbai, in 1969. His brother, Gufi Paintal, is also a notable figure in the Indian entertainment industry, having played the iconic role of Shakuni in the popular television series 'Mahabharat' (1988). Interestingly, Paintal himself portrayed the roles of Shikhandi and Sudama in the same series.
Paintal's family legacy in the entertainment industry continues with his son, Hiten Paintal, who has also made a name for himself in the film industry. Hiten has appeared in notable movies such as 'Dil Maange More' (2004) and 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' (2008).
