Nur Sürer, a renowned Turkish actress, was born on June 21, 1954. She pursued her education at Bursa Anatolian Girls' High School, laying the foundation for her future success.
Sürer kick-started her career in the cinematic world with Erden Kiral's Bereketli Topraklar Üzerinde (On Fertile Soils),subsequently earning the "Best Actress" award twice at the prestigious Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. To date, she has made appearances in over forty films and television series, showcasing her remarkable range as an actress.
Her international breakthrough came with the 1984 film Ayna, which went on to win the Oscar Award for "Best Foreign Language Film" in 1991. This was followed by notable roles in Umuda Yolculuk (1990),Dunkle Schatten der Angst (1993),and Yara (1998).
Sürer's personal life has been marked by two marriages. Her first union was with Bülent Kayabas in 1981, and she later married Sarp Kuray, the leader of the 16 June Movement, who was sentenced to life imprisonment. This tumultuous experience has only strengthened her conviction in advocating for women's rights and her strong political stance.
In 2007, Sürer participated in the 1 May celebrations in Istanbul, only to be detained by the police the following day. Despite this, she continued to pursue her passion for acting, taking on the iconic role of "Neriman Kozcuoglu" in the popular TV series Asi, which aired on Kanal D between 2007 and 2009.
After a brief hiatus, Sürer returned to the big screen in 2021 with the film Sen, Ben Lenin, and continued her television acting career with the 2023 TV series Aile. Throughout her illustrious career, Nur Sürer has consistently demonstrated her versatility, talent, and dedication to her craft.
