Biography

Linda Griffith, a renowned American singer-songwriter, was born in Seguin, Texas, and has spent her illustrious career traversing a diverse array of musical genres, primarily country, folk, and the genre she affectionately terms "folkabilly". Notably, Griffith garnered a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 1994 for her remarkable recording, Other Voices, Other Rooms.

This album showcased Griffith's impressive ability to cover the songs of the artists who profoundly influenced her, including the likes of Julie Gold, whose "From a Distance" she also recorded. While Bette Midler's version of this song achieved greater commercial success, Griffith's rendition remains a fan favorite. Similarly, other artists have occasionally achieved greater success than Griffith herself with songs she wrote or co-wrote, such as Kathy Mattea's country music top five hit with her 1986 cover of "Love at the Five and Dime" and Suzy Bogguss's massive hit with Griffith's and Tom Russell's "Outbound Plane".

In 1994, Griffith collaborated with the acclaimed songwriter Jimmy Webb to contribute the song "If These Old Walls Could Speak" to the AIDS benefit album Red Hot + Country, produced by the esteemed Red Hot Organization. Griffith has been an inspiration to many, having overcome the challenges of breast cancer, which was diagnosed in 1996, and thyroid cancer, which was diagnosed in 1998.
