Mohamed Ben Attia, born on January 5, 1976, in Tunis, is a Tunisian director and screenwriter who has made a significant impact in the film industry.
Prior to his career in filmmaking, Mohamed held various jobs in audiovisual post-production and even worked for twelve years in a commercial position and prospecting at a car dealership in Tunis. However, his true passion lay in writing and directing.
Mohamed's journey in filmmaking began when he was trained at the writing workshop Sud Écriture in Tunis. He started writing and directing short fiction films, with his first short film, Romantisme : deux comprimés matin et soir, released in 2005. His subsequent short films, including Comme les autres (Kif Lokhrim) in 2006, showcased his talent and dedication to the craft.
Mohamed's breakthrough came with his short film Mouja, which premiered at the Carthage Film Festival in 2010 and was later selected at CinemAfrica 2011 in Stockholm. This was followed by his fourth short film, Loi 76, in 2011, and Selma in 2013.
After gaining recognition for his short films, Mohamed transitioned to feature films with Hedi, a wind of freedom in 2016. Produced by Dora Bouchoucha (Nomadis Images) and co-produced by the Dardenne brothers (Les Films du Fleuve),Hedi was a testament to Mohamed's storytelling ability and scriptwriting skills.
In 2018, Mohamed participated in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where his feature film Dear Son was screened at the Directors' Fortnight.
