Michel Modo, born Michel Henri Louis Goi, was a French actor and humorist, renowned for his remarkable career spanning multiple decades. Born on March 30, 1937, in Carpentras, Vaucluse, he left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
Modo's most notable collaboration was with actor Guy Grosso, forming the comedy duo Grosso et Modo in the late 1950s. Together, they appeared in numerous films, including the popular Gendarmes de Saint Tropez series, where Modo played the iconic role of Constable Berlicot alongside esteemed co-stars Michel Galabru, Jean Lefebvre, and Christian Marin.
The duo also starred as Laflûte and Quince in Jean-Christophe Averty's The Dream of a Summer Night. Modo's versatility and range were showcased in his portrayal of various characters throughout his career.
Between 1993 and 1997, Modo became a recurring actor in the television series Highlander, where he played the humorous character Maurice Lolande, a representation of the average French person.
In December 2005, Modo starred in the television series Plus belle la vie alongside Colette Renard. He brought to life the character of a bum philosopher disguised as Santa Claus, further demonstrating his impressive range.
Additionally, Modo provided the French voice for several recurring characters in the animated series The Simpsons. His untimely passing in 2008, at the age of 71, occurred while dubbing the last episodes of season 19. He was replaced by Gérard Rinaldi, who unfortunately passed away from cancer on March 2, 2012.
