Me Me Lai, a renowned actress of Burmese and English descent, was born in 1952 in Burma to a Burmese mother and an English father. As a teenager, she relocated to England, where she embarked on her acting career, initially appearing in television series such as Paul Temple and Jason King.
Her early filmography includes the 1971 horror movie Crucible of Terror, followed by the 1972 film Au Pair Girls. Lai's breakthrough came during the era of Italian cannibal films, when she starred in two iconic movies: Il Paese del Sesso Selvaggio (1972) by Umberto Lenzi and Ultimo Mondo Cannibale (1977) by Ruggero Deodato. In the latter, her character meets a gruesome demise at the hands of a tribe of cannibals.
The actress also appeared in Mangiati Vivi (1980),another film by Umberto Lenzi, which reused her death scene from Ultimo Mondo Cannibale. Outside the cannibal genre, she had a role in Blake Edwards's 1978 comedy Revenge of the Pink Panther.
In addition to her acting career, Me Me Lai also co-hosted British game shows The Golden Shot and Sale of the Century, and made appearances on the 1970s Yorkshire Television programme Origami, alongside Robert Harbin.
Her final film credit was in Lars von Trier's 1984 movie The Element of Crime.
