Matthew Charles Berry, born May 2, 1974, is a multifaceted English artist, encompassing the realms of acting, comedy, writing, and music. His impressive television credits include appearances in The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh, Snuff Box, The Wrong Door, and House of Fools.
Berry's most recent and notable role is the lead character, Steven Toast, in the Channel 4 sitcom Toast of London, for which he received the 2015 BAFTA Award for Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme. Since 2019, he has starred in the FX television series What We Do In the Shadows and the sitcom Year of the Rabbit.
Despite his prominent on-screen presence, Matthew Berry is surprisingly introverted and reserved in person. His striking features are somewhat overshadowed by his luxuriant, constantly pushed-back hair. In conversation, he repeatedly emphasizes his desire for privacy, stating, "I'm a very private person."
When discussing his recent relocation from London to a more spacious area, Berry becomes visibly distressed and requests that the location remain undisclosed. "I don't want anyone to know where I am, really. If that's alright," he says with a hint of vulnerability.
