Matthieu Tota, a renowned individual, is the offspring of renowned footballer André Tota and his mother, Brigitte Tota. Unfortunately, his parents divorced in 1998 when he was merely 13 years old. Throughout his childhood, he attended elementary school in Hohberg, followed by Collège Paul-Émile Victor in Mundolsheim and Lycée Aristide Briand in Schiltigheim, situated near the city of Strasbourg.
As a young boy, his primary aspiration was to become a professional footballer, but his passion eventually shifted towards music. He desired to become a professional musician and make a name for himself in the industry. In an interview featured in the documentary "Mis à jour," which aired on NRJ 12 television station on August 26, 2010, Matthieu Tota shared the origin of his stage name, Pokora.
He revealed that he was seeking an artistic name and was having a conversation with his grandmother, who is of Polish descent. The concept of humility came up during their discussion, and he inquired about the Polish word for humility. His grandmother replied, "pokora," which immediately resonated with him. As a result, he decided to adopt the name Pokora, with "Matt" being derived from his given name, Matthieu. Thus, he became known by his stage name, Matt Pokora. Prior to establishing his solo career, he gained public recognition as a member of the French R&B group Mic Unity.
