Louis S. Peterson, a groundbreaking figure in the world of American theatre and television, made history in 1953 by becoming the first African American playwright to have a dramatic play, "Take a Giant Step," premier on the esteemed Broadway stage.

Not content to rest on his laurels, Peterson continued to break barriers, becoming one of the pioneering African American writers to work in prime time network television.
