Coyne's illustrious career in the performing arts began with his earliest appearances in school plays, where he took on leading roles in two outstanding productions: 'The Judge' in Oscar Wilde's 'Hang of the Gaol' and 'Phaeton' in Ovid's Chariot of the Sun. His exceptional performances in these productions garnered rave reviews in the national press, ultimately leading him to decide to pursue a career as an actor.
Subsequently, Coyne secured a place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he excelled in his studies and was awarded the esteemed Hannam Clarke Award upon his graduation. His early television appearances included a notable role in an episode of London's Burning in 1990, followed by a significant part in the mini-series Gulliver's Travels alongside Ted Danson.
Over the next few years, Coyne continued to hone his craft, making numerous guest appearances in popular British television series such as EastEnders, Pulling, and The Bill. His breakthrough role came in 2003 with a part in the major motion picture Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. In 2010, he appeared in The Nutcracker in 3D, further solidifying his status as a talented and versatile actor.
Coyne's most notable role to date is undoubtedly his portrayal of Warden Edwin James on the critically acclaimed television series Alcatraz. He has also appeared in the films Would You Rather and London Boulevard, as well as taking on supporting roles in the major films Gangster Squad and The Hangover Part III, serving as a henchman in the former and the right-hand man of John Goodman's character in the latter.
