João Salaviza Manso Feldman da Silva, a multifaceted artist, was born on February 19, 1984, in Lisbon, Portugal. As a film director, screenwriter, editor, producer, and former actor, his creative endeavors have garnered widespread recognition, including the prestigious Short Film Golden Bear, the Short Film Palme d'Or, and the Un Certain Regard.
Salaviza's early life was influenced by his father, José Edgar Feldman, a film director, and his mother, a producer. He pursued his passion for filmmaking at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School and the Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Salaviza's cinematic accomplishments include the critically acclaimed film Arena, which won the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. His subsequent film, Rafa, received the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2012.
In addition to his directorial work, Salaviza has also worked as an assistant editor on Manoel de Oliveira's Eccentricities of a Blonde-haired Girl.
