Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, is a Malaysian businessman and international fugitive, who was born on November 4, 1981.
As the mastermind of the massive 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, Low is wanted by authorities for allegedly siphoning US$4.5 billion from the fund into his personal accounts.
The US government claims that Low is the beneficiary of numerous discretionary trust assets, which originated from payments made out of the Malaysian 1MDB fund.
Despite being accused of fraud, Low has maintained his innocence and claims that Malaysian authorities are engaging in a campaign of harassment and political persecution against him.
Low's alleged involvement in the 1MDB scandal is linked to his support of former Prime Minister Najib Razak, who was convicted of seven counts of abuse of power, money laundering, and criminal breach of trust.
In addition to his alleged involvement in the 1MDB scandal, Low was also involved in the establishment of Red Granite Pictures, a Hollywood production company that produced films such as The Wolf of Wall Street and Dumb and Dumber To.
The US Government took action to recover the rights to both movies in 2013 and 2016, and the claims were settled in August 2018. The settlement did not admit to any wrongdoing or liability on the part of Red Granite Pictures.
Despite these allegations and legal proceedings, Low remains at large and is considered an international fugitive.
