Jean Beaudin, a renowned Canadian film director and screenwriter, was born on February 6, 1939, and passed away on May 18, 2019. Throughout his illustrious career, spanning over five decades, Beaudin directed an impressive 20 films since 1969. One of his notable works is the film "J.A. Martin Photographer", which garnered significant attention and accolades at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival. The film earned Monique Mercure the award for Best Actress, while Beaudin himself took home the award for Best Director.

Furthermore, "J.A. Martin Photographer" also won the top prize at the 1977 Canadian Film Awards, with Mercure again receiving the award for Best Actress. Beaudin's remarkable work did not go unnoticed, as he received nominations for the Genie Award for Best Achievement in Direction in 1986, 1992, and 2003 for his films "Le Matou", "Being at Home with Claude", and "Le collectionneur", respectively.
