Tobin's early life unfolded in Hong Kong, where he was born and spent his formative years at the King George V School in Kowloon, Hong Kong. His mixed heritage, being half English and half Chinese, played a significant role in shaping his identity. Despite his introverted nature, shyness kept him from participating in school drama productions, a passion he would later discover.
As he approached adulthood, Tobin found himself in Asia, preparing to embark on a new chapter in his life by returning to the UK to pursue a law degree at university. It was during this period that he finally verbalized his long-held dream of becoming an actor, a decision that would ultimately define his career trajectory.
Throughout his career, Tobin has appeared in an impressive array of over twenty films, as well as numerous television productions. One of his most notable roles is that of Eddy Tsai, the main character in the Asian American thriller film "Chink", directed by Stanley Yung, written by Koji Steven Sakai, and produced by Quentin Lee. The film also stars Eugenia Yuan and Tzi Ma.
Tobin's performance in "Chink" earned him a prestigious award at the 2013 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, recognizing his outstanding work as "Best Actor" or "Breakout Performance for an Actor".
