Jared Corey Kushner, born January 10, 1981, is an American investor, real-estate developer, and newspaper publisher. As the elder son of former real-estate developer Charles Kushner, Jared Kushner is married to Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter and fellow advisor.
Jared Kushner's business career began when he took over management of his father's real estate company, Kushner Companies, following his father's conviction and incarceration for fraud. He later bought Observer Media, publisher of the New York Observer, and co-founded and part-owns Cadre, an online real-estate investment platform.
During the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, Kushner helped develop and run Trump's digital media strategy. He was named a senior White House advisor on January 9, 2017.
As senior White House advisor, Kushner faced controversy due to his conflicts of interest, as he continued to engage in business and profit from policy proposals he pushed for within the administration. He was unable to obtain Top Secret Security clearance until May 2018, when Trump reportedly intervened on his behalf.
Kushner played a significant role in the Trump administration, including pushing for the FIRST STEP Act, a criminal justice reform bill signed into law in 2018. He also authored a peace plan for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, announced in January 2020, which was seen as overwhelmingly favoring Israel.
In addition, Kushner had an influential role in the administration's response to the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic, advising Trump in the first two months of the outbreak that the media was exaggerating the threat of the virus. He later helped draft an error-riddled Oval Office address about the crisis.
