Janine Webber, a remarkable individual with a deeply rooted connection to both Poland and Britain, has lived through the harrowing experience of being a Holocaust survivor. Prior to the onset of World War II, Lwów, her ancestral hometown, was peacefully inhabited by a diverse population. However, the signing of the Nazi-Soviet Pact in 1939 marked a significant turning point, as the Red Army swiftly occupied Lwów, plunging the city into a period of Soviet rule that would last for approximately 18 months.
This period of relative calm was suddenly shattered in June 1941, when Germany launched a surprise invasion of the USSR, catching both the Soviet Union and the people of Lwów off guard. In the aftermath of this invasion, the Nazis and their Ukrainian collaborators unleashed a wave of brutality and persecution upon the Jewish population of Lwów, resulting in the murder of thousands of innocent people within a remarkably short period of time.
