Jason William Mizell, professionally known as Jam Master Jay, was a renowned American musician and DJ, best recognized for his role as the DJ of the groundbreaking hip hop group Run-DMC.
During the 1980s, Run-DMC rose to prominence, becoming one of the most influential and successful hip hop groups, successfully bridging the gap between hip hop and mainstream music.
Tragically, Mizell's life was cut short in a senseless shooting that occurred in his Queens, New York recording studio on October 30, 2002.
For nearly two decades, the murder case remained unsolved, with no arrests made until 2020 when two perpetrators were finally brought to justice.
In 2024, both suspects were found guilty of murdering Mizell and are facing a lengthy prison sentence of between 20 years to life.
A third suspect, also implicated in the murder, was arrested in 2023 and is currently awaiting trial.
