Joshua Stuart Weinstein, a talented individual, embarked on his stand-up comedy journey at the tender age of 15 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
At 17, he was one of the pioneering writer/performers of the cult sci-fi comedy television series Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K),bringing to life the iconic roles of robots Tom Servo and Gypsy, as well as Dr. Lawrence Erhardt. To avoid confusion with another writer named Josh Weinstein, he adopted the moniker "J. Elvis Weinstein".
After relocating to Los Angeles, Weinstein flourished as a writer/producer on a diverse array of network television comedies, including Freaks and Geeks, Malcolm and Eddie, Dead Last, and My Guide to Becoming a Rock Star. His impressive credentials also include serving as the Head Writer on America's Funniest Home Videos and Later with Greg Kinnear.
In 2008, Weinstein reunited with his MST3K co-stars to form Cinematic Titanic, a live show that toured U.S. theaters and produced 12 DVDs, now available as a box set.
Throughout his illustrious career, Weinstein has written and directed three films: two feature documentaries, I Need You to Kill and Michael Des Barres: Who Do You Want Me to Be?, as well as a comedy short, The Mediocre Samaritan. As a performer, he continues to hone his stand-up skills, co-hosts the popular podcast Thought Spiral with comedian Andy Kindler, and recently co-starred in the feature film The Fiddling Horse.
