Biography

Ivor Perl, born Yitzchak Perlmutter, is a Hungarian-British holocaust survivor with a remarkable life story. He was raised in an Orthodox Jewish family with eight siblings, consisting of four brothers and four sisters, in an environment that deeply ingrained his cultural and religious heritage. In 1944, a fateful year that would forever change the course of his life, Ivor and his family were forcibly taken onto a train, amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the Holocaust. The train journey was a grueling and inhumane experience, with the cramped and unsanitary conditions leading to the deaths of many fellow passengers. After an agonizing period of days, they finally arrived at the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, a place where the horrors of the Holocaust would forever be etched in Ivor's memory. As the Russian army drew closer to Auschwitz in January 1945, the Nazis attempted to evacuate the camps and destroy evidence of their heinous crimes, but not before Ivor and his brother Alec were sent to the Allach concentration camp in Germany by train, marking the beginning of their harrowing journey towards survival and eventual liberation.
