Harry B. Lachman, a multifaceted American artist, set designer, and film director, was born on June 29, 1886, in La Salle, Illinois.
Educated at the University of Michigan, Lachman initially pursued a career as a magazine and book illustrator, contributing four vibrant colour illustrations to the 1907 work "John Smith, Gentleman Adventurer" by Charles Harcourt Ainslie Forbes-Lindsay.
In 1911, he emigrated to Paris, where he established himself as a renowned post-impressionist painter, earning the prestigious Légion d'Honneur award from the French government.
Lachman's passion for motion pictures was sparked by his work as a set designer in Nice, leading to his involvement in the 1925 film "Mare Nostrum". He subsequently worked as a director in France and England before settling in Hollywood in 1933.
Throughout his illustrious career, Lachman's credits include notable films such as "Down Our Street", "Baby Take a Bow", "Dante's Inferno", "Our Relations", and "Dr. Renault's Secret".
In 1938, Lachman tied the knot with Jue Quon Tai, and in the 1940s, he returned to his roots as a painter.
Tragically, Harry B. Lachman passed away on March 19, 1975.
