Biography

José R. Somoza, a Nicaraguan military officer, was born in 1913 and went on to lead a life marked by significant events and connections to the country's history.

As the son of Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza García, José Somoza was part of a powerful and influential family in Nicaraguan politics. His brothers, Luis Anastasio Somoza Debayle and Anastasio Somoza Debayle, would go on to hold the highest office in the land, serving as the 50th and 53rd Presidents of Nicaragua, respectively.

However, the Somoza family's grip on power was eventually challenged, and in July 1979, they were overthrown. José Somoza, along with his family, was forced to flee Nicaragua and seek refuge in Miami, Florida.

Despite his tumultuous past, José Somoza lived out the remainder of his days in exile, passing away in 2004.
