Gary Grimes, an American actor, was born on June 2, 1955, in San Francisco. He began his acting career with a significant role in the 1971 film Summer of '42, playing a teenager who enters into an affair with a more mature woman, portrayed by Jennifer O'Neill. Grimes' performance in this movie earned him a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer—Male in 1972, as well as a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Newcomer in the same year.
In addition to his role in Summer of '42, Grimes starred in the sequel Class of '44, which followed his character as he transitioned to college. He also appeared in several other notable films during this period, including Cahill U.S. Marshal, alongside John Wayne, The Spikes Gang, alongside Lee Marvin and Ron Howard, and the cult Disney film Gus, which tells the story of a mule that excels at kicking field goals. Grimes was offered a television series during this time, but declined the opportunity.
Gary Grimes eventually retired from the entertainment industry in the late 1970s, and has since lived a private life in Los Angeles. In a 2011 interview with American Profile magazine, Grimes explained that he had reached a point where the quality of his work was no longer meeting his standards, and he was content with his decision to step away from the industry.
