János Gálvölgyi: A Hungarian Icon of Comedy and Parody
Born on May 26, 1948, in Budapest, Hungary, János Gálvölgyi is a renowned Hungarian actor, parodist, voice actor, and artist. He is a recipient of the prestigious Kossuth Prize and the Jászai Mari Prize, and is considered one of the most beloved and respected comedians in Hungary.
Gálvölgyi's journey in the world of entertainment began with his education at the Madách Gimnázium, where he honed his skills in photography. He then worked as a kemigráfus, or a maker of negatives, at the Révai Nyomda from 1967 to 1968.
In 1968, he appeared on the popular Hungarian television show "Ki mit tud?" as a parodist, showcasing his impressive comedic skills. He then went on to study at the Színház- és Filmművészeti Főiskola, graduating in 1973. His career in the theater began at the Thália Színház, where he quickly became a crowd favorite.
In 1993, Gálvölgyi joined the Madách Színház, where he has remained a prominent member of the troupe to this day. He is particularly known for his work in comedic plays, and has become a household name in Hungary.
In addition to his work on stage, Gálvölgyi has also appeared on television, hosting his own show, "Gálvölgyi Show," on the RTL Klub network. He is a regular guest on the popular TV show "Rádiókabaré" and has been a fixture on the "Heti Hetes" program.
As a voice actor, Gálvölgyi has lent his talents to a number of characters, including the iconic British comedian Benny Hill and the German detective Harry Klein from the popular TV show "Derrick."
Gálvölgyi was born to János Gálvölgyi and Mária Gumbinger, and is married to Judit Gálvölgyi (née Gács),a translator. The couple has two daughters, Eszter and Dóra, born in 1973 and 1975, respectively. His father-in-law, Rodolfo, was a famous Hungarian magician.
In his free time, Gálvölgyi enjoys collecting clown memorabilia.
