Biography

Roderick "Derick" Cabrido is an award-winning Filipino documentary producer and filmmaker, renowned for his exceptional work in the industry. Born and raised in Tondo, Manila, one of the most densely populated areas in the world and one of the poorest and most underdeveloped communities in the Philippines, his experiences have undoubtedly influenced his creative vision.

Throughout his illustrious career, Cabrido has received numerous accolades for his documentaries and films. He was awarded the Bronze World Medal at the 2009 New York Television Festival for his documentary "Pinays for Export," the Silver Screen Award at the 2010 New York International Independent Film and Video Festival for "Tasaday," and the 2012 Silver World Medal Award at the New York Festivals for "Yaman sa Basura," which was also a finalist for the 2011 UNICEF Asia-Pacific Child Rights Awards.

In addition to his documentary work, Cabrido has produced and directed several feature films. His debut feature film, "Children's Show," won the Grand Prize Award at the Gwangju International Film Festival and received multiple awards at the 2014 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, including Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Canon Best Cinematography, and Best Supporting Actor. The film also won the Special Jury Prize for the Orient Express Category at the Fantasporto International Film Festival, the Special Jury Award and Best Screenplay at the Fantastic Cinema Festival, Arkansas, Texas, and the Emerging Director Award from the same festival.

Cabrido's film, "Antipo," premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner, and his film "Cuchera" was a finalist at the 2011 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, premiering at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival under the Discovery Section. The film also screened at the 2011 Stockholm International Film Festival, the 2011 Belgrade International Film Festival, and the 2011 Cleveland Film Festival.

Furthermore, Cabrido produced the film "Nuwebe (Termitaria)," a finalist at the 2013 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, which won awards at the Queens World Film Festival, the Harlem International Film Festival in New York City, the Lume International Film Festival in Brazil, the Festival Internacional de Cine Puebla in Mexico, and the Best Director Award at the 2015 ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Throughout his impressive career, Cabrido has demonstrated his versatility and talent as a filmmaker, producing and directing a wide range of films and documentaries that have received international recognition and acclaim.
