David Lloyd George, 17th January 1863, in Manchester, to 26th March 1945, in Llanystumdwy, Wales, was a British statesman, and the first Earl Lloyd George of Dwyfor. He was the last Prime Minister to belong to the Liberal Party.
Lloyd George represented the United Kingdom at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 and the Treaty of Versailles, facing both French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau and United States President Woodrow Wilson. He sought to punish Germany politically and economically, but without going as far as Clemenceau wanted to annihilate its power. When asked how he got out of Versailles, he responded with a witty remark: "Not bad considering I was seated between Jesus Christ and Napoleon".
