Daria Matza's fascination with storytelling and the power of images to transport, move, and inspire profound change began to unfold at a remarkably early age. As she embarked on this captivating journey of stories, she lent her skills to various endeavors, including producing segments for esteemed news organizations such as MSNBC and PBS, crafting independent films, and collaborating on major motion pictures.
With an unwavering passion for documentary filmmaking, Matza made her directorial debut with A Capital Beat, a cinematic masterpiece that delved into the rich history and culture of Go-Go music, shedding light on its profound social impact on the community. Since then, she has been an integral part of a diverse array of documentaries, including Keep on Moving, Starved, and An Inaugural Ride to Freedom, which garnered an Emmy Award.
Prior to her foray into documentary filmmaking, Matza produced Styria, a haunting gothic feature film starring Stephen Rea and Eleanor Tomlinson, which was shot on location outside of Budapest. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism, a Graduate Certificate in Documentary Filmmaking, and a Master's degree in Film, Television, and New Media.
Today, Matza resides in Portland with her daughters and filmmaking partner/husband, where she simultaneously pursues various storytelling projects and teaches cinema classes.
