Claude Brasseur, born Claude Pierre Espinasse, was the offspring of renowned actor Pierre Brasseur and actress Odette Joyeux, and the godson of literary legend Ernest Hemingway. He was also the proud father of Alexandre Brasseur.
In addition to his illustrious acting career, Brasseur was a member of the French bobsleigh team in the 1960s and co-pilot to the accomplished Jacky Ickx in the Paris-Dakar rally, claiming victory in the competition.
Throughout his long and distinguished career, spanning over two decades, Brasseur appeared in an impressive 150 film and television productions, showcasing his remarkable range as an actor. One of his most notable roles was as Arthur in Jean-Luc Godard's critically acclaimed film Bande à part (1964).
In the early 1970s, Brasseur took on the title role in the historical crime television series The New Adventures of Vidocq, which garnered significant commercial success. His comedic talents shone brightly in the hit films La Boum (1980) and La Boum 2 (1982),where he played the father of Sophie Marceau's teenage character.
Tragically, Claude Brasseur passed away on December 22, 2020, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable performances and a remarkable life.
