Christopher B. Candito, better known by his ring name Chris Candido, was an American professional wrestler who had a successful career in various wrestling promotions, including Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling, and World Wrestling Federation. He held multiple championships throughout his career, including the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and the XPW World Heavyweight Championship.
Candido's career spanned over two decades, during which he worked with various wrestlers, including Tammy Sytch, Andy Douglas, Chase Stevens, Elix Skipper, Petey Williams, Mikey Batts, Lex Lovett, Buck Quartermain, Dustin Rhodes, America's Most Wanted, Lance Hoyt, Apolo, and Sonny Siaki.
He was known for his versatility in the ring, competing in various match types, including six-man tag team matches, steel cage matches, and tag team matches. Candido's last match was at TNA LockDown in 2005, where he fractured both his tibia and fibula and dislocated his ankle during a steel cage match with Lance Hoyt against Apolo and Sonny Siaki.
Candido's injury led to a series of complications, including acute pneumonia, which ultimately resulted in his death on April 28, 2005, at the age of 33. His death had a profound impact on the professional wrestling community, with many wrestlers, including CM Punk, paying tribute to his memory.
In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Candido was inducted into the Hardcore Hall of Fame in 2009 and had a Chris Candido Memorial Tag Team Tournament held in his honor in late 2005.
