William Richard Frisell, a renowned American jazz guitarist, initially gained recognition in the 1980s through his work with ECM Records, both as a session player and a leader. This early success served as a springboard for his diverse musical endeavors, which included collaborations with the vibrant Downtown Scene in New York City. It was during this period that he formed a lasting creative partnership with the acclaimed composer and saxophonist John Zorn.
Frisell's impressive career also saw him become a long-standing member of the esteemed group led by veteran drummer Paul Motian, a collaboration that spanned from the early 1980s until Motian's passing in 2011. In addition to his work as a sideman, Frisell has also established himself as a prominent bandleader, seamlessly integrating various styles, including folk, country, rock 'n' roll, and Americana, into his music since the late 1990s.
Throughout his illustrious career, Frisell has garnered six Grammy nominations and one win, a testament to his exceptional skill and dedication to his craft.
