Betty Astell, a renowned English actress, was born Betty Julia Hymans on May 23, 1912, at 54 Cranhurst Road in Willesden, Middlesex. She would go on to spend more than six decades of her life in a loving marriage to entertainer Cyril Fletcher, starting from May 18, 1941, until his passing on January 1, 2005. The couple was blessed with a talented daughter, actress and comedian Jill Fletcher, who would carry on the family tradition of entertaining the masses.
Throughout her illustrious career, Astell had the privilege of sharing the screen with her husband on his popular television series, The Cyril Fletcher Show. Her presence on the small screen was not limited to just this show, as she was also one of the pioneering figures to appear in John Logie Baird's experimental television broadcasts on the BBC's 30-line shows.
Tragically, Astell's life came to a close on July 26, 2005, in a hospital near her home in Guernsey, leaving behind a legacy of over nine decades of love, laughter, and entertainment. At the time of her passing, she was 93 years young, a testament to her remarkable vitality and zest for life.
