Anya Wu, a talented individual, was born on February 17th, 1976, in Taiwan. At the tender age of six, she relocated to the United States with her family, where she spent her formative years in New York City. Little did she know that her life was about to take a dramatic turn, as she was soon discovered by a record company, paving the way for her to become a singer in Taiwan.
As she prepared for her album release, Anya made a name for herself as the first girl DJ in Taiwan's club scene, captivating the attention of media outlets from Hong Kong and beyond. Her interview in a magazine caught the eye of renowned Director Jingle Ma, who was so impressed that he convinced Golden Harvest, a prominent film production, distribution, and exhibition company, to relocate her to Hong Kong and sign her.
Although she was initially meant to star in "Moi Moi Cha", she ended up making her film debut in the final installment of the Young & Dangerous series, Born To Be King, playing the role of Nanako, the wife of Jordan Chan. This marked the beginning of her rapid rise to fame in Hong Kong, with Golden Harvest's support propelling her to larger roles in several post-millennium films.
Anya's impressive performance in For Bad Boys Only, where she played one of Ekin Cheng's many love interests, was followed by more action-packed roles in Sharp Guns and 2002, in which her character, Fire Ghost, clashed with Stephen Fung and Nicholas Tse. Her stunning looks and undeniable talent earned her a spot as one of the top upcoming actresses in both Hong Kong and Taiwan, with numerous magazine covers, print ads, and TV shows to her credit.
In 2002, Anya took on the challenging role of Kat in the "remake/sequel" to Naked Killer, titled Naked Weapon, alongside Maggie Q's character, Charlene. She also appeared in the stage play Glengarry Glenross, where she bravely took on the traditionally male role of Blake, a performance that sold out tickets and required an additional day to accommodate the enthusiastic audience.
Following her work on Vampire Hunters, a thriller directed by Tsui Hark, Anya decided to return to her native Taiwan, where she experimented with TV series, starring in Pink Godfather and Taiwan's version of "Sex And The City", in which she played the charismatic Samantha.
After a year in Taiwan, Anya realized that her true passion lay in film, and so she headed to China, where she is currently working on co-productions with Chinese and foreign production companies, utilizing her fluency in both Chinese and English.
