Antonio Román, a renowned Spanish film director, screenwriter, and producer, was born on November 9, 1911, in Ourense, Spain. He began his career in the 1930s, initially directing documentaries before transitioning to dramatic feature films.

Román's directorial debut, Esquadrilla, marked the beginning of a prolific career, with his subsequent works including adaptations of Lola Montes and La Fierecilla domada, a modern retelling of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Many of his films featured his wife, the talented actress Yvonne Bastien.

Throughout his career, Román received numerous international accolades, including the Golden Olive Tree award at the Cine de Humor de Bordighera in Italy for his film Bombas para la paz, as well as an award for Pacto de silencio at the Cork Festival in Ireland.
