Biography

Antonin Baudry, a multifaceted French diplomat, comic book author, screenwriter, and film director, was born on May 6, 1975, and is also known by his pseudonym Abel Lanzac.

After completing his studies at the prestigious lycée Louis-le-Grand, Antonin Baudry pursued higher education at the École polytechnique, graduating as an engineer of bridges, water, and forest in 1994.

In addition to his engineering degree, he also graduated second in literature from the École normale supérieure in Paris in 1998 and obtained a Diplôme d'études approfondies (DEA) in cinematography.

Antonin Baudry's professional journey began in April 2004 when he became a conseiller to Minister Dominique de Villepin at the Ministry of the Interior.

From 2010 to 2014, he served as the cultural counsellor at the French Embassy in Washington D.C., United States, and the counsellor for cooperation and cultural action at the French Embassy in Madrid, Spain.

Under the pseudonym Abel Lanzac, he leveraged his diplomatic experience to co-author the comic book series Quai d'Orsay (2010-2011) with Christophe Blain. The series won the prestigious prix du meilleur album at the festival d'Angoulême in 2013, leading to the revelation of his true identity.

In 2014, Antonin Baudry founded Albertine, the only French-language bookstore in New York, which shares the Payne Whitney House with the Cultural Services arm of the French embassy.

On January 28, 2015, he was appointed as Ambassador for French Culture at the Institut français, but resigned a few months later to focus on personal projects.

Antonin Baudry served as the president of the jury for the 43rd festival international de la bande dessinée in January 2016.

In 2019, he made his directorial debut with the submarine thriller film Le Chant du loup.
