Person Biography:
Anil Kapoor was born in 1959 to Surinder and Nirmal, also known as Suchitra Kapoor, in a Chawl in Tilak Nagar. He is a Punjabi-speaking individual with an elder brother, Boney, a sister, Reena, and a younger brother, Sanjay. Their father used to be Shammi Kapoor's Secretary. Anil was a loner, without many friends, and studied in the nearby O.L.P.S. (Our Lady of Perpetual Succor) School. He was an ardent fan of Bollywood flicks and was influenced by Raj Kapoor, which later affected his acting style. He made his acting debut as a child artiste in a movie that was never released.
After completing school, Anil attended St. Xaviers College, where he met Mazhar Khan. However, he was kicked out of college in his second year due to his lack of attendance. He then failed to join the Pune Film Institute and instead decided to join Roshan Taneja's Acting school.
Anil's first role on the silver screen was in Hamhare Tumhare, followed by his first lead role in Woh 7 Din. He has since acted in nearly 100 movies and has five more in production. He has also produced two movies and worked as a Casting Director/Outdoor In charge for Hum Paanch.
Anil's international debut was in Danny Boyle's 2008 Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, for which he received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. His performance in the eighth season of the action series 24 received rave reviews from the American press.
Anil married Sunita Bhambhani, a wealthy and chic model, in 1984, and they have three children together: two daughters, Sonam Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor, and a son, Harshwardhan Kapoor.
