Andy Alvarez, a talented director and producer, hails from Cali, Colombia, but has made Vancouver, BC her home base. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of British Columbia, class of 2017, Alvarez has been making waves in the industry ever since.
Her directorial debut, the award-winning short film La Mariposa, is a deeply personal project that has garnered widespread recognition. In June 2018, La Mariposa took home the prestigious Leo Award for Best Student Production, and is now available to stream on both CBC Gem and Air Canada.
Alvarez's impressive credentials continued to grow in the fall of 2018, when she was selected as one of only 10 filmmakers to participate in the Vancouver International Film Festival's inaugural Talent Lab program.
Most recently, Andy Alvarez won the coveted Lindalee Tracey Award at the 2019 Hot Docs Film Festival for her latest short film, Our Home.
