Amy Spanger is a multifaceted American performer, boasting a versatile career as an actress, singer, and dancer.
Born in Newbury, Massachusetts, Spanger made her Broadway debut in 1995, taking the stage in the musical Sunset Boulevard after initially touring with Jekyll & Hyde for half a year. This marked the beginning of her illustrious career, which would soon see her originate the role of Lois Lane (Bianca) in the Broadway revival of Kiss Me, Kate.
Spanger's impressive repertoire continued to grow as she took on the iconic role of Roxie Hart in Chicago and Hope Cladwell in Urinetown. In 2006, she originated the role of Holly in The Wedding Singer, further solidifying her status as a talented performer.
In addition to her Broadway credits, Spanger has also appeared in the national touring companies of Rent and Chicago. Her off-Broadway credits include the role of Susan in the Jonathan Larson musical tick, tick... BOOM!, as well as Lunch and Feeling Electric, which later evolved into Next to Normal, where she co-starred with Anthony Rapp.
Spanger's notable stage credits also include originating the role of Sherrie in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages, although she took an extended leave from the production in early June 2009 for vocal rest before permanently departing on June 29 due to "personal reasons."
More recently, Spanger originated the role of Jovie in the stage musical adaptation of Will Ferrell's Christmas comedy, Elf, which ran on Broadway for nine weeks at the Al Hirschfeld Theater and closed on January 2, 2011.
