Amit, the visionary Artistic Director and founder of Gecko, hails from Israel but was raised in London, where he underwent rigorous training under the guidance of esteemed theatre and dance creators such as Lindsay Kemp and David Glass. His formative years were marked by a transformative experience in South East Asia, where he worked as a facilitator, collaborating with street children to create theatre over a period of four years.
This life-changing odyssey sparked a desire in Amit to develop his own unique methodologies, which would eventually become the hallmark of Gecko's creative approach. He focused on cultivating an emphasis on emotion, physicality, metaphor, breath, and musicality, which would become the cornerstone of the company's artistic vision.
As the company's founder, Amit has been instrumental in shaping Gecko's distinct language of training, performance, devising, and teaching. This innovative approach has enabled the company to forge lasting relationships worldwide, as Gecko's productions continue to tour globally.
Throughout his illustrious career, Amit has created seven critically acclaimed shows with Gecko, including Taylor's Dummies, The Race, The Arab and The Jew, The Overcoat, Missing, Institute, and The Wedding. These productions have received widespread acclaim, touring nationally and internationally. In 2015, Amit took his talents to the BBC, creating and performing in The Time of Your Life, which was broadcast live on BBC4 as part of Live From Television Centre.
