New York City comedian, actress, writer, producer, and podcaster Alia Janine has led a life full of variety and excitement. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she has lived all over the United States, eventually moving to New York City from Los Angeles in 2013 to pursue a career in comedy.
Prior to her comedy career, Alia had an eclectic array of professions, including working as a bar/restaurant manager, data entry specialist, factory worker, armored car driver, private investigator, and for 10 years, she was an adult entertainment performer. During her time in the adult industry, she worked as a feature dancer, adult model, and actress, appearing in pornographic videos from 2009 until her retirement in 2012.
To further her comedy career, Alia took courses at the UCB (Upright Citizen's Brigade),Manhattan Comedy School, and Rick Crom's Comedy School. Since making the switch to comedy, Alia has performed at some of the city's best comedy clubs, including The Stand, The Comedy Cellar, Stand Up NY, and Gotham Comedy Club. She has had the privilege of sharing the stage with some of today's hottest comedians, such as Dave Attell, Jay Oakerson, Christian Finnegan, Monroe Martin, Brody Stevens, Yannis Pappas, Jay Pharoah, Brian Redban, Duncan Trussell, and Sam Tripoli.
Alia has delighted her fans by appearing on many popular national radio shows, including Sirius XM's Sway in the Morning, The Jason Ellis Show, The Judith Regan Show, Derek and Romaine, The Jay Thomas Show, and "My Wife Hates Me" with comedians Rich Vos and Bonnie MacFarlane. She has also appeared on various popular podcasts, such as The Legion of Skanks, Two White Guys, The Mad Scientist Party Hour, and the Ploof is in the Pudding.
In addition to her performances, Alia has been featured on hip-hop star 50 Cent's website Thisis50.com, Vice.com, and The Daily Dot. She has also written blogs and appeared on the comedy website LaughSpin.com. Her unique background and transition from the adult industry to comedy have earned her recognition, including a nomination for Mainstream Star of the Year by the AVN (Adult Video News) Awards in 2015.
