In 1917, the British army is stalled by the Turkish line from Gaza to Beersheba. A failed attack on Gaza includes a regiment of Australian mounted infantry, the Light Horse. Wounded Lighthorseman Frank is replaced by Dave, a skilled marksman who struggles to fire at the enemy. Dave proves himself during a German biplane attack and meets a compassionate nurse, Anne, in the hospital. The regiment is tasked with a daring flanking attack on Beersheba, but must first convince the Turks that the main assault will come at Gaza. Additionally, they face the daunting challenge of crossing the desert without water.
