That Lady background

That Lady

In 1570, Princess Ana de Mendoza finds herself at the center of a treacherous love triangle between her cousin Don Inigo, King Philip II of Spain, and his trusted secretary Antonio Perez.

Ana, the Princess of Eboli, wears a black patch over her right eye, a result of a duel she fought in defense of her King, Philip. Despite their close friendship, Philip's passion for Ana remains unrequited. After marrying a minister and bearing a son, Ana becomes a widow. Philip asks her to mentor a commoner, Antonio Perez, for the role of First Secretary. Ana and Antonio's romance sparks a scandal in court, where intrigue is constant. Philip arrests Antonio for murder, and when Ana refuses to leave Madrid, she too is arrested. After imprisonment, Ana is transferred to her home, where she's held captive. Antonio escapes and reunites with Ana, who convinces him to flee the country with her son.
