Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street

Joan Ganz Cooney, a socially conscious television executive, was tasked with creating a children's show that would "master the addictive qualities of television and do something good with them". Inspired by the civil rights movement, she and Lloyd Morrisett Jr. envisioned using TV to educate all children, particularly those in America's inner cities. They recruited Jim Henson and Jon Stone to create Sesame Street, a groundbreaking show that would educate and entertain children nationwide. The documentary "Street Gang: How We Got To Sesame Street" focuses on the show's first two decades, featuring interviews with the original creators and their families, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of bringing the iconic characters to life.
