In 1925, Harry Smith, a gunrunner in Damascus, secretly supplies arms to rebels led by Emir Hassan. However, he is captured by the French and coerced into selling weapons to them. Amidst this turmoil, Harry becomes infatuated with Violette, the mistress of French intelligence officer Feroud.
