A white man, raised by a Pawnee chief from childhood, is sent to live among white people as tensions rise between them and the Pawnee tribe. As wagon trains begin to invade Pawnee land, the scout, now known as Paul Fletcher, must navigate his dual identities to protect the settlers from the hostile Pawnee leader, Crazy Fox.
