In 19th century Cornwall, Mary, a young orphan, is sent to live with Aunt Patience and Uncle Joss, who run the Jamaica Inn. She discovers that the inn is a hub for a group of ship wreckers who deliberately crash ships onto the rocky coast, and Mary's life becomes increasingly perilous.
