Bobby Bowfinger, a 49-year-old entrepreneur, owns a struggling production company with only $2,184 to its name. He believes his fortunes will change with a science-fiction screenplay written by his accountant Afrim, which he thinks will attract big studios. Bobby convinces a small group of followers to support his vision, including Daisy, a small-town girl looking to make it big in Hollywood. He uses lies to get a verbal confirmation from a big studio executive to distribute the movie, but struggles to convince the biggest action star, Kit Ramsey, to star in it. Bobby's scheme involves filming Kit without his knowledge, using his paranoia about aliens to get his reactions to the script. However, complications arise when the actors try to interact with Kit outside of filming and Bobby is required to hire a production assistant who must stand-in for Kit's naked-ass shot.
